1. I found the carving detail in the middle to be successful. I think the carvings as well as the holes gave it a more lava lamp type of look. 2. I would definitely try to add more holes of different sizes throughout the piece 3. Advice I would give is to always make sure you plan out how much of the foam you want to shave or carve off since the foam piece becomes small very quickly. And if you carve off too much you can’t go back.
IN PROGRESS FOAM SCULPTURE1. My plan for my piece was inspired to look like a lava lamp. My goal was to make a similar shape to a real life lava lamp that you can hold. The holes in the middle would represent the bubbles that float around in a lava lamp. 2. I found creating the actual shape & the carvings in the middle pretty easy to do. Although the holes in the middle of my sculpture were hard to do. It was a challenge to carve out holes and make them even to each other.
1. I found the measurements and the dimensions of the piece to be successful. I think the way my piece looked at the end resembled a real life cupcake. I also like how the size turned out, it wasn't too large or too small.
2. I would definitely try to add more detail to the frosting and make it a little bit more colorful to add a fun effect to the piece. I would also try to add more layers throughout the piece to make it better to look at from more angles, like underneath. 3. Advice I would give is to always go bigger. I found hot gluing on the small sized sprinkles to be a challenge. Larger pieces are definitely easier to work with. Kendal Murray

The piece that caught my eye was the hand bag she turned into a sculpture. It was very cool to see how she turned an object I've seen several times make it look like it wasn't a hand bag anymore, but an art piece. 1. To create a realistic looking cupcake as if it were hanging off a wall for everyone to see.
2.I'm finding the base and measurements easy to do, everything lined up correctly to make it the size I prefer. I found the frosting on top hard to glue onto the cupcake, it was difficult to make the frosting even all around the cupcake. |
